Best Practices for using Clerk.io Search on your online store.

Search As You Type

Search-as-you-type allows your customers to browse and purchase products directly from your search bar.

Combined with semantic search (understanding what the customer means instead of just looking for keywords), auto correcting spelling mistakes (the customer should not realise that they made the spelling mistake in the first place) and predicting customer behaviour - this is a killer feature for any online retailer and a major competitive advantage.

Remember to display rich product information like picture, name, price and even a call-to-action button.

This is the most important search feature today!

60% - 80% of all search conversions from Clerk.io come directly from search-as-you-type! This means that after installing Clerk.io's live-search, the majority of your customers don't even have to use the search page to buy from you.

Note that this is particularly high for the industry, but this is attributed to how effective the ClerkCore algorithm is at predicting what your customers are looking for.

Search Page

With search-as-you-type, it is important to remember that the search page is no longer your primary seller. It's more of a backup for those 20% of customers who didn't find the product they were looking for in the top 5 results.

A good search page, however, will allow your customers to dive deep in your product catalog. The key feature here is faceted search, aka search filters.

Zero Result Pages

Even on your No Results page you can still manage to sell to your customers. Adding a recommendation slider to your no results page, based on customer activity, can help you to lead customers back through the shopping journey instead of creating a road block.

Use recommendations based on browsing history if no results match their query.
