Setting Up A Shopify Store + Clerk.io

This guide will walk you through how to create a Shopify webshop, that you can install Clerk.io on.

Brace yourself, the setup is coming!

1. Register your new webshop

To get started, you need to create a Shopify webshop. They offer trials of 3 days you can use to try installing Clerk.io.

  1. Go to https://www.shopify.com
  2. Click on Start for free to start creating your trial account.
  3. Follow Shopifys wizard (the technical one, not the one with the pointy hat)

2. Upload products to your new Webshop

Assuming you followed the above steps correctly, you should see a dashboard backend similar to this one:

Now you want to upload some product data, so you actually have stuff to sell.

  1. Download the awesome Shopify Pet Food Products here
  2. In the Shopify dashboard, navigate to Products->Products and click Import in the top of the screen.
  3. In the popup that appears, click Choose File and upload the shopify_products.csv file you just downloaded. Shopify will show you a nice little preview of your data, because thats just the kind of system it is.
  4. Click Start import to upload your products.
  5. Wait for it to finish. You earned yourself a cup of coffee, or a Gin&Tonic by now.

3. Install Clerk.io to Make Your Webshop Great (Again)

So lets see what all the fuzz is about, and get right into installing Clerk.io.

  1. In hq.clerk.io, search for the account "Commercial Demo Account".
  2. Click the dropdown in the top left corner and click Add new store in the bottom.
  3. Create a store in my.clerk.io on the first screen you see and follow the wizard for Shopify (still not the one with the pointy hat)
  4. Make sure you have both your my.clerk.io account and your Shopify backend open. You will only need these two to install Clerk.io like a true developer boss.
  5. In case you get stuck, simply reach out through the Live-Chat in the bottom right corner of the screen, and a team of incredibly talented professionals, with expertise in just about everything, will help you out. Note!

You should setup as much as you can by following the Setup Wizard at Clerk.io, but dont setup the Landing Page / Blogs. Those require the setup of custom pages, which you are not ready for yet!
